Great podcast! You make a lot of great points about body image related to traditional and social media. The Dove campaign promoting real beauty is a great example of a company attempting to counter these unrealistic expectations of airbrushed and/or unhealthy models. This is an important topic and I think you do a great job presenting ways in which these problems can and should be changed.
The media definitely has a direct impact on eating disorders and body image. I personally had a friend who developed an eating disorder after years of staring at other girls on Facebook in their bathing suits. She would constantly compare herself and eventually decided she needed to “do something” about it and stopped eating. It is sad how severe these eating disorders can become due to social media. Popular media has affected eating disorders a lot, also. Last week the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show was on. After watching and drooling at the girls’ bodies, many of my friends decided they were going to “not eat” for a month. Although this may have been a joke, I noticed a MAJOR change in my friends’ eating patterns.
